About Boland Bodyboarding Association
The Boland Bodyboarding Association (BBA) was started in 1999 by a group of very dedicated bodyboarders who were keen to see more people get involved in the sport of Bodyboarding.
Although the Boland Bodyboarding Association is a fairly new body, registered with the South African Bodyboarding Association (SABA) 1999, we already had the chance of hosting four national events (2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2009) that form part of the SABA circuit, where riders from all over the country compete for valuable SABA points to determine a SABA champion at the end of each year. The top SABA riders for the year are eligible for National colors.
We are also the home of BIG WAVE RIDING in South
Africa. Now known as the EBWBb, Extreme Big Wave Bodyboarding,
event that's run during the winter season to get the biggest
and meanest waves around. And they can be found in Hermanus.
This is also the only event in South Africa that entrants are invited
to enter. This means that it is not open to the general bodyboarder. A
very special event indeed.
The BBA also had the opportunity of hosting the South African Bodyboarding Championships in 2001 and 2009. This is where 8 teams from all Bodyboarding provinces in South Africa gather to compete, both as a team and individually, for the title of SA-champ. Boland claimed a fourth place in the overall team event.
As it was, one of our own riders and previous
chairman, Johan de Goede, won the much sought after professional
division. He is also the current Big Wave Champion. Johan was
also the first Boland Bodyboarder to receive his Protea colors
in 2002.
We will be hosting SA Champs again at the end of September 2008, and this time
we do not only whant to be the best team, but also have hosted the
best contest of its kind to date.
Every effort is made by BBA to provide media coverage - which includes full credit to our sponsors and partners - in each of the provinces prior and after the event, with local and international press being invited to attend the events. Sponsor's banners & flags are proudly displayed throughout the event with ongoing regular announcements reflecting this tremendous support.
Efforts are made to get TV coverage but without specific budgets for this, success can unfortunately never be granted. Results are published in the press after the events.
In short, Boland is the best place to be so see
you on the beach and bring your buds with.
Moms and Dads welcome too, only if accompanied by kids.
